Policies

Course Conduct and Expectations

Professionalism

  • Be on time and stay engaged during class.
  • Stay on task during lectures and activities.
  • Complete work on time or communicate early.

Attendance

  • Attendance supports learning even if not directly graded.
  • Notify the instructor about absences as soon as practical.
  • Missing class means you must catch up using peers and materials.

Communication

  • Check MS Teams daily on business days.
  • Respond within 1 business day whenever possible.
  • Use proper netiquette in all communications.

Late Work and Drop Policy

Late work is penalized through the professionalism grade. All assignments must be submitted by the end of the semester to pass the class. Being absent more than two times without communication or failing to respond to messages may result in being dropped from the class.

AI Use Policy

All AI use must be disclosed. Include an appendix with:

  • All prompts and AI responses (highlight prompts in yellow).
  • Original text if AI was used for rephrasing or grammar.
  • Numbered prompts for citation (example: [AI-5]).
  • Prefix AI-generated content with [AI] (color optional).

In the main body, clearly distinguish AI-generated content using a different font color such as blue. Do not submit work you do not understand.

Accommodations

If you need an academic accommodation, initiate the request with the Center for Accommodations and Support Services (CASS). Contact CASS at 915-747-5148 or cass@utep.edu, or apply through the CASS portal. Students approved by CASS receive a 3-day extension for individual tasks.

Incomplete Grades

Incomplete grades may be requested only in exceptional circumstances after you have completed at least half of the course requirements. If granted, we will establish a contract of work and deadlines.

Honor Code and Academic Integrity

Academic dishonesty is prohibited and includes cheating, plagiarism, and collusion. All suspected violations must be reported to the Office of Community Standards.

  • Always cite all resources, including AI tools and online discussions.
  • Do not copy solutions from AI tools or classmates.
  • Discussion with classmates is allowed but must be disclosed.
  • Do not post assignment solutions online during or after the course.
